Grendel

I thought the author's view of being a hero was when the soldiers would shout and yell stuff about sacrificing themselves or dying for their leader. I thought that it was really brave but also really silly because if you know that no one can defeat it then why risk trying to kill it by yourself.

Archetypes - Gilgamesh

Hero - Gilgamesh because he seems like a good king, his people really don't have any problems with him or the way he runs the city. He also kills Humbaba which shows his determination, also he goes on a journey.
Antihero - Gilgamesh because during Gilgamesh and his good friend Enkidu are on their journey for immortality, Enkidu dies which after Gilgamesh really loses hope and faith and sort of gives up on everything. After talking to Utnapishtim it really changes him as a man and makes him more optimistic.
Wise Fool - Utnapishtim because he really is wise and doesn't really seek immortality because at the time every man was. So maybe he was thinking that if he doesn't seek immortality in danger he could be granted it. Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh that he should not be seeking immortality because it is really seeking to be a God and that isn't the right thing to do. He tells Gilgamesh that once you are immortal you are alone and lonely, which Utnapishtim later on is granted immortality and survives the flood and is lonely after becuse all his friends die.
Devil Figure - Ishtar because even though she is to be known as the Goddess of love she is known to sent the Bull of Heaven and kill around 300 people. The reason this is so is because Gilgamesh wouldn't marry her which brought anger and hate in Ishtar towards men and to wipe out all mankind. She is also known to be part of the agreement of the huge flood.
The Outcast - Urshanabi because he is just their to help Gilgamesh, Urshanabi was a friend of Enkidu. He is a character that is just their to help for a short period of time and you don't see him at all through the book other that one or two parts, but Urshanabi helps Gilgamesh he to the island where is said to be a flower of eternal ism which is eaten after he finds it.
Double - Ishtar because she does have many different sides, even though we see a huge portion of her evil side she is also good in ways. For example when she sent down the Bull of Heaven and the great flood she wanted to erase mankind from the earth but after tyhis happened she felt as if she did something terribly wrong.
The Scapegoat - Enkidu because he isn't very fond of the Gods. The Gods also say that either Enkidu or Gilgamesh must die because they both took part in killing the Bull of Heaven and Humbaba, but since Gilgamesh is already 2/3 God they decide that Enkidu will die. Gilgamesh is 2/3 God because he wounded Humbaba and didn't really kill him and that he didn't receive the punishment that Enkidu did. Enkidu knows that he is the one to be killed by the gods, he accepts his death and once he fades away he starts to talk about his like and how the prostitute took away his innocence.
Temptress - As we all know which would be best is Immortality because that's what man was seeking greatly for, even today man is still searching for immortality. How to make you live longer, how to make you look younger, man no matter what will always be looking for immortality. In Gilgamesh, when all the people were seeking immortality it was them trying to be Gods, the Gods were angered when they heard about this because if they became immortal there would be nothing to set mortals and immortals apart.
Good Mother - Ninsun because she is the mother of Gilgamesh, and like any mother is very worried and protective of Gilgamesh and also Enkidu his good friend. She doesn't play a huge role but helps Gilgamesh by feeding him.
